Kafe Leopold is a standout in Georgetown. The location is perfect, and the interior strikes a balance between European café charm and polished design. It feels intentional without trying too hard. The service was phenomenal. Attentive, warm, and confident. I’m often left unimpressed by modern twists on old-world cuisine. Too many places chase novelty and lose the soul of the dish. Kafe Leopold pulls it off effortlessly. The spätzle and bratwurst with an over-easy egg was unexpected and outstanding. Rich, savory, and deeply satisfying. The egg brought the entire plate together in a way that made me want another bite long after I finished. The quiche was clean and vibrant, with color and flavor that felt fresh rather than heavy. This is a must-go in Georgetown. I’ll absolutely return.
This café in Georgetown is fantastic for BREAKFAST. The food tastes great, the service is friendly, and the atmosphere is wonderful. I went back for lunch and, since it’s an Austrian café, I decided to order the schnitzel. Unfortunately, it was the most awkward schnitzel I’ve ever had. The meat tasted strange, and it seemed like it had been frozen and then reheated. It was terrible. I would only recommend this place for breakfast and coffee.
Great atmosphere and friendly service, but the food is hit or miss. The avocado toast was not good at all, but the coffee and Napoleon were really nice.
I came in for a dessert and got the Fraisier, which was delicious. However, I bit hard into a broken piece of pistachio shell that was in the middle of the pastry. I told the waitress about the shell and gave my concern regarding sharp object inside a pastry that could have been swallowed or damaged someone's tooth. Instead of acknowledging the issue, the server quickly took my plate away and never addressed it. I'm not sure if the concern was ever brought up to anyone. I'm posting this review, so maybe the pastry chef or management would be aware of this quality control issue.
This place used to be a go-to brunch spot when I lived in Georgetown; however, a lot changed since then. My favorite menu, egg in a cup, is replaced with egg on baguette. I was already disappointed there. Avocado toast and poached eggs tasted as expected but nothing extraordinary. Ham and cheese croissant was pretty good. We also ordered lemon pancake, which was the best out of all we ordered today. Lemon pancake was soft but chewy with right balance of lemon hint that stimulated appetite. It was good enough to eat without any butter, syrup, or jam. I tried it with syrup but then it became too sweet. I would recommend that to anyone to give it a try. Overall, still decent option for weekend brunch and enjoy DC/Georgetown vibe.
