This neighborhood Roti spot is the jam! One of the best things I have eaten in Boston. Caribbean food in Dorchester is the truth. No frills place. Spoke to Woo who was super chill, and told me the history of JP Roti shop. Started out in the backyard 40 years ago and this is their second shop. No the most efficient and it can get hot in there but you forget all of that and realize why people come here. Food tastes homemade and you can taste the fresh roti being made with all the great curries that come in the Roti. I asked Woo what I should get and he said Chicken and Shrimp spicy. Woo was right, could only finish half of it, saw a lady get mad about her wait there but when she got the food she was like it’s worth it.
Shrimp Roti is good 🍤. I don't care for the boneless as the meat can be too dry, but the flavor is great. However, there has been a time where I felt like the meat was rushed as it had no flavor 😕. The wait time is way too long, and I can never figure out why this is my biggest complaint, unless you go as soon as they open ⏳. I do have to say the family, for the most part, is polite and friendly 😊.
Their doubles are on point. The best I’ve had in Boston . Weird process to tell one person what you want then go to the other dude to collect & pay but it works. They are friendly and relatively fast. The food serving area is always clean.
The roti was great!! However as a born Trinidadian I was very upset. I went to Boston for a trip and had to get a good roti. I was dying for a doubles ,not having one for almost 2 years. When I ask the young lady if they had doubles available she said not anymore. Behold!!! While waiting almost an hour for a roti ,it was also extremely hot in the shop. I saw persons giving doubles orders and other orders were being placed above mines. That was very upsetting and I will not be going back. Bless the lady's heart who took the time to apologize
Best roti in Boston, but I feel like over the years the portion size got ALOT smaller for the price. Before I couldn't even finish whole roti, now the roti could fit in the palm of my hand. More potatoes than meat. You can count the pieces of in the roti.
