J & J’s Mex-Taqueria stands out as a strong choice for Mexican food in Washington, DC. You walk in and feel welcomed fast. Service moves with purpose. Orders arrive hot and well presented. I ordered the tacos de birria. They arrive with rich consommé on the side. The tortillas hold well and do not fall apart. The meat tastes tender and full of flavor. Each bite delivers balance between spice, salt, and texture. The dipping broth adds depth and keeps the tacos moist. Portion size feels right for the price range of ten to twenty dollars. You leave satisfied without feeling rushed. The menu offers solid variety. Tacos, quesadillas, and sides cover both classic and comfort choices. Ingredients taste fresh and consistent. Nothing feels rushed or careless. The location on Georgia Avenue works
Their crispy chicken tortas hit and they come with fries. They also make some of the best tongue tacos I’ve had, not every place gets it right, but they do. Their white sauce is different, it has an original flavor I loved and I’ve only had here.
Overall it was a cute little place for a quick bite. The tacos were great, but the torta was a little underwhelming (I wish they toasted the bread). I do have one feedback and that is the tables need to be wiped down better — ours was a bit dirty. The service was good, everyone was friendly. Good, chill atmosphere and the restroom was clean. I definitely would want to go back and check out the other items on the menu.
The chicken was so dry! I got burrito Supreme and nachos and the chicken was so dry and tasted like leftovers. For some reason it had like a fishy aftertaste. We have always ordered the chicken tacos and they were really good but wanted to try other items on menu. Big mistake! Maybe because it was after 5pm. I also ordered side of Spanish rice. It was just white rice w nothing else. So very disappointed. Lady on the phone was very nice, did her job well.
This place has the best asada tacos in the DC/Maryland area, hands down. I have not been to a restaurant, food truck, or pickup spot that can replicate the bold, savory flavor or tenderness of their steak! I lived in Silver Spring for a year and ordered here way too much. I don't miss the city, but I miss the tacos. Never change! The tres leches is also outstanding.
