The most authentic eating experience you can get here in DC! Quality food with reasonable prices. We had the omakase and the fish, most notably the horse mackerel, blew our minds. Not only is it fresh, but the flavor is so nuanced and texture is perfect. Paired with fresh wasabi and the enjoyment of watching the crew behind the bar. The hand drawn specials menu adds another level of charm, too!
The greatest, most unique food in all of DC in a delightful building with super helpful staff! It was all so good, I forgot to take pics before it was all gone. The yuzu sake + shochu cocktail absolutely rocked. While the portions are delicate, the variety and ability to share a bunch of delicious items was delightful. The sea grapes, ankimo, eel, and mushrooms were my fave.
Hands down some of the best izakaya I’ve ever had! Only tried a few things but was blown away by the flavors and incredible staff putting on a show in the kitchen. The best place to sit is downstairs at the bar where you can see them make everything! We tried the special hibachi gil, which was so tender—I had never had anything like this. Also loved the garlic swarmed ahi and garlic marinated beech brown mushrooms, the crab croquettes are also a must! Would recommend coming here with a few friends and ordering a handful of tapas to try together, this will be one of the best Japanese meals in DC!
Our experience was great. The staff called us because we were a little behind to let us know the kitchen closed no later than 9:15. We got in and were taken care of immediately. We sat at the counter and got to watch the team in action. It’s an intense kitchen vibe but cool to see the food come out. We order 5 small dishes to share and the pork cheek skewers, fried tofu and mushrooms in butter sauce were my favorites. I’d come back again for a larger selection!
We had an excellent dining experience at Izakaya Seki! Here’s a breakdown of the dishes we ordered: Tonkatsu: The pork cutlet was perfectly crispy on the outside while remaining tender and juicy on the inside. The breading was light yet flavorful, and the accompanying sauce complemented the dish beautifully. Fried Shrimp: The shrimp was fresh and cooked to perfection with a golden, crispy coating. The texture was spot-on, and it paired wonderfully with the tangy dipping sauce provided. Omelette: This was a highlight of the meal! The omelette was fluffy and seasoned just right, with a subtle sweetness that added depth to the flavor. It was a comforting and satisfying dish. Pork Yakitori: The skewered pork was grilled to perfection, with a delicious smoky flavor. The meat was tender and
