I finally got a chance to eat at Island Vibez Jamaican Restaurant, and I’m not exaggerating when I say this was one of the best restaurants I’ve had in Winston-Salem, PERIOD... From the moment I opened the container, the smell alone told me I was in for something special. The oxtails were falling off the bone. Slow cooked, rich, and full of flavor all the way through. Not just saucy on the outside, but seasoned deep. The gravy over the rice was perfect, not greasy, not watery, just straight comfort food done right. The mac and cheese deserves its own shout-out. I just moved to the area and was craving some good Caribbean food, oxtails, specifically! Island Vibez was the closest spot, so I decided to give it a try. The gentleman at the register was incredibly friendly and welcoming. I placed my order, and within minutes, my food was ready. While I waited, I asked about the rum cake, and he brought out one of the largest slices from the back, even suggesting I try it in front of him to see my reaction! I knew that was a bold move, so I politely declined, lol. He asked if it was my first time and assured me I’d end up calling this place “home.” I laughed, not entirely convinced… yet.
