Customer Reviews
The food was fantastic, the atmosphere is wonderful but the service left a bit too be desired. I suspect they were very under staffed the day we ate lunch at Iris. Our server (she never shared her name) was pleasant enough but I think she was working about a dozen tables, so she was less than attentive. We ordered a bottle of Rose & it was served warm. Aside from that, it was a wonderful experience & we'll be back because it is a lovely place & supporting NCMA is worth a few minor service snafus.
I got the shrimp and grits. It was pretty good and very cheesy. The shrimp was perfect. The place was packed when I went around lunch time on a Saturday and there were a lot of reserved seats. It was a nice experience.
We had fantastic meals for lunch. We had eggs Benedict and shrimp and grits. Both meals came out presented beautifully. To top it off with had a brownie with blue ice cream which was an amazing send off.
We’ve eaten here for years and I guess I never wrote up a review. Food and service has consistently been great. This times was no exception. It’s a great restaurant to share a meal at especially before or after walking around the museum. Sometimes it gets especially crowded so I’d suggest reservations for peak times/days. I think we tried to get a reservation for this lunch and they weren’t taking reservations- we didn’t have a problem snagging a table.
This is very good for a museum restaurant, but I wouldn't come here otherwise. The shrimp in my shrimp and grits was perfect, but the grits were heavy and over cheesed, and the onions were overwhelming -- it needed something acidic to cut through the heaviness. We ordered matcha tea, and we were brought a glass teapot that let us sea our tea turn pale yellow. The teapot had an insert, like it had real tea, but there was just one sad teabag in it. We got the brie fondue, looking forward to indulging, but it came with middling crackers and lacked the fruit acidity it needed. Also, it seemed like the brie was mixed with something cheaper. And for the price, I just felt the food should be better, but I guess you pay for the location. So, in all, it was fine, but I wouldn't call it fine dining.
