Iowa Legal Aid

Had an open child case with legal and and they closed my case due to me not having court dates back to back! If you ever have a child custody case, I advise you pay for your own lawyer. They closed my case “ due to them, not having enough workers” Cedar Rapids Iowa system is by far the worst I have ever experienced! Fast forward now I have trail coming up with no legal representation!

I received zero assistance from this firm. I have had to reach out to them a few times and each time I'm disappointed. The staff is friendly, but the actual amount of help I received was a let down. They wouldn't even recommend who else I could speak with or offer any words of advice to steer me in the right direction. They may help others with their situations, but I didn't have the same luck.

My drunk, emotionally verbally mentally abusive ex used iowa legal aid for a case where he got fired for being drunk. Because he used them, I'm not allowed to get free legal aid because it is a conflict of interests... Wow. My four childrens' mental health, emotional health, financial health doesn't matter because he wanted to make sure he got unemployment benefits????? Why do you exist?

I was recently in need of legal assistance & because my ex (they wouldn't state it was him bc of confidently, however stated another party to the case)had used this place in the past, they were unable to help citing "conflict of interest". I can totally understand & respect that if weren't for the fact that I know nothing my ex reports is the truth & most likely was able to obtain assistance because of not reporting true financial statements. Also my understanding was that this is a "group" of individuals, therefore no reason the same person would even be addressing my need.

Keep being told conflict of interest no help at all
