INn by the Mill

We stayed at The Mill House with two other couples. What a fabulous experience to stay in the home. Every room was decorated with the old world charm. The decor of each room was more unique than the other. Very tastefully decorated! Our refrigerator was stocked with a huge variety of treats. Our INnkeeper Judith, baked several homemade goodies for our stay as well. We thoroughly enjoyed our evenings sitting in the parlor, eating ice cream while listening to stories from the diary of a previous owner of the Mill. We also were entertained by stories from Ron and Judith of their history with the Grist Mill, Mill house and properties. This is truly a hidden gem in New York State.

My mother and I stayed here and it is in a beautiful location. The Inn is beautifully decorated with very comfortable beds. The owner loves to bake and had desserts, bread and a blueberry coffee cake waiting for us. Their was juice, yougart and fresh fruit for breakfast plus an assortment of coffee and tea to choose to make. Before leaving we walked through the grounds. Such lovely flower gardens and a path to walk next to the waterfall. We were also gave a tour of the mill. The owners have a lot of information on the property and are happy to share their knowledge. I would love to go back and recommend it for those wanting a nice quiet retreat.

We stayed in the Haugs House - an 1800's hog house converted into a one room cabin located next to the waterfall. The cabin is on the national historic registry. It's decor (pigs) was a bit kitsch if you are not into pigs, which I'm not, but it actually worked in the room. It was one of the most romantic settings, in the woods overlooking the waterfall. We enjoyed just sitting in the glider rocking and reading next to the falls. And Judith's baked goods were amazing. The room, setting and food was really terrific! The main guest house is across the street and I didn't see its rooms.

This B&B is 1.5 miles from the Erie Canal Trail with a bit of uphill climb at the end. That also meant we had to bicycle 1 mile for dinners, but the setting is well worth it. Beautiful creekside inn with several room options. The owners are very friendly and solicitous. Ron loves to talk and you get his welcome when you first arrive....antique light bulbs, robot he built, but he is interesting too. Food is available (tons of ice cream) so you make your own breakfast. We stayed two nights...relaxed on the front porch and walked by the lovely wooded stream. Accomodations are good...if a bit kitschy.

My sister Karen and I stayed here five years ago to visit with an old friend in Herkimer. This time we didn't even consider another venue. Ron & Judith are the most hospitable hosts you could wish for. The grounds are beautiful, with rapids behind the house. Virtually EVERYTHING is provided, including Wi-Fi, home baked goodies, a very full fridge and pantry, and I slept better than I do at home.
