Good food and a nice atmosphere. I do wish the Szechuan food was a little more spicy, but the dishes we got, like Shrimp with silken tofu, Szechuan fish fillet with tofu, Dan Dan noodles, and Green Beans was very good. Prices are a little high and portions were small compared to Flushing, but the difference was not extravagant, and for three people we were able to be full for about $90 pre-tip, which is respectable.
Spent a chill late afternoon here. The cocktail is soooooo good! Highly recommended. The Chinese food is authentic although the chicken dish is bit plain. Tofu with beef is the best one out of the 5 dishes we ordered.
I had a such a satisfying experience here. Everything tasted freshly made and well-prepared. The mapo tofu stood out the most. Soft tofu in a rich, savory sauce with just the right amount of numbing Sichuan spice. I also got the ma-la wontons another favorite Everything felt well-seasoned, comforting, and combined with the quick, efficient service, HUPO is definitely a place I’d return to when I’m craving bold, comforting Chinese food done right!
been going here for years but the portions have gotten so much smaller... Not sure if I can justify the price anymore. Ordered a dry Hotpot for $36! This was the portion. Laughable. 3 pieces of beef, 3 pieces of fish tofu and some mushroom. Will never be ordering here again.
11.19.2025 Update after the restaurant’s response: The claim that these were “enoki mushroom fibers” is simply not accurate. The pieces we found were inside the fish meat, not in the broth, and were removed by pulling them out of the flesh. Cooked enoki does not appear as a single long, round, elastic tube — nor can it be extracted intact from inside a piece of fish. We found multiple pieces with the same worm-like appearance and texture, all inside the fish flesh. These characteristics are completely inconsistent with mushrooms and entirely consistent with parasites commonly found in raw fish before cooking. Throw the picture to GPT and you will see it is parasite. This is clearly a raw fish sourcing issue. We are not unreasonable customers; we just want restaurants to take food safety
