The best thing of this venue is the price! Price is actually affordable and reasonable based on the location and Washington DC itself. Food portion is large as America standard however it is too oily for my taste and it can be a fusion rather I would say true Hunan/Chinese cuisine. Atmosphere is the typical Chinese-next-door restaurant. Peking duck set is actually good.
This place is a gem for authentic Chinese food. The Peking duck was absolutely delicious — crispy skin, juicy meat, and perfectly seasoned. You can really tell it’s done the traditional way. The Tianjin-style buns were another highlight. Soft, fluffy, and packed with flavorful filling, they were easily some of the best I’ve had outside of China. Service was friendly and efficient, and the overall atmosphere was warm and comfortable. Definitely a spot I’d come back to and recommend to anyone craving real Chinese cuisine.
Best Chinese food I’ve had in DC. The staff was amazing and so kind. They also had great recommendations. The food was delicious and very generous portions for the price.
This is one of the most impressive Chinese restaurants I’ve been to. The food is authentic, flavorful, and generously portioned — every dish tasted fresh and carefully prepared. The fried rice was fragrant and perfectly cooked, and the main dishes were rich and savory, showing the chef’s skill and attention to detail. I also really appreciated the warm and welcoming service here. The staff were friendly and attentive, and the food came out quickly. The dining area was clean and comfortable, which made the whole experience even more enjoyable. Whether you’re coming with friends or family, this is a fantastic place to enjoy a delicious meal. I’ve already recommended it to others and will definitely be coming back!
I visited Hunan Dynasty after seeing glowing reviews on Red Note (小红书), especially about their steamed baozi. The owner is from Tianjin, a region known for savory buns, so I had to try them. They came out piping hot, stuffed with flavorful pork and whole shrimp, wrapped in soft, spongy dough. These reminded me of my mom’s homemade buns and that’s saying a lot. Each order includes 6 medium sized buns. A bit pricy, but worth it for the quality and rarity. We also ordered the grilled whole fish, seafood tofu casserole, Mongolian lamb, and stir-fried Chinese greens from the authentic menu. All were flavorful, just a touch salty for me, but perfect with rice. Friendly service, cozy and spacious setting. I’ll definitely be back especially for the baozi!
