Hot Tamale Heaven And Grille

Hot Tamale Heaven normally lives up to their name, but not this time. I had been craving tamales and I go and to my surprise the prices have gone up. Fine, I still order a dozen to drive 30 minutes home and they are unseasoned and dry! The tamales actually looked old. I was so disappointed as this was my go to spot for tamales. I only ate 3 hoping it would get better.

I stopped at the Hot Tamale Heaven on 82 and it wasn’t open yet. Instead, the nice lady suggested I try the “big store”. She gave me directions and sent me on my way. I was VERY impressed when I saw the outside so I parked and decided to go in. I must say that the foul odor of marijuana was strong outside but once inside, it did smell like tamale heaven! The staff was very friendly and the inside was as nice and clean as the outside. I got my dozen tamales and Arnold Palmer to go. I was eager to try them so I decided to start eating them in the parking lot. They were as good as they were hot. They were flavored perfectly seasoned but I was only able to eat a couple before I had to go. I must admit that they were so good, I stopped two more times to eat more. We are tourists passing through the area. Everyone told us that we had to get some Hot Tamales before we left the area. Now, in all fairness, I have no experience with Tamales, but we decided to give them a try. We ordered up a half dozen of Hot Tamales. We were not impressed with them. They were bland and did not have much favoring. Ok, we can say we tried them. And, by Tamales standards, we may have been eating some of the best. But, they fell flat for us. Oh, if you come here, be sure to look at that stunning Sycamore tree across the street from Hot Tamale Heaven & Grill. That tree is beautiful.

Parked outside about 20 minutes early to try these famous hot tamales. Drew the shades on the truck to not disturb the employees so they could work their tamale magic. When the clock struck 11 our tamale experience ensued and we didn't know what we were in for. We were waited on by a warm and inviting woman at the register, ordered our half dozen of these hot puppies and were out the door. Once we made it back to the truck we undressed the tamales in privacy and we indeed did go to tamale HEAVEN. Our fingers were messy and we used those saltine crackers to soak up all the delicious hot tamale au jus that drained and pooled in the box. Such a welcoming restaurant! The food was so good that my brothers went back the following week. I'm not a huge tamale fan, but these were DELICIOUS.
