This little place warmed my heart and filled my belly with true food on a very cold day in Minneapolis. All my taste sensors were deliciously attended to. The owner and/ or manager welcomed me at the door with a smile. The authenticity of this type of human interaction with the staff is seldom nowadays. Thank you for making today a great day for the man in suit.
I read about this great restaurant in Just for the Summer by Abby Jimenez. We were greeted at the door (ICE not welcome) and stepped into an artful dinner. Figurines, paint by number art & little signs cover the walls. We were told the sauces are delicious homemade family recipes (I preferred the green sauce). Bilingual service - English and Spanish
HOW COOL! This little gem was such a neat find! The food was great, the building and aesthetic is so cool, but the service left a lot to be desired. Unfortunately, our waitress acted like we were a burden, and hardly spoke to us and got us out of there quickly. Regardless, this place is too cool not to stop at again!
Went on a Sunday morning, busy place. Got counter seating right away. Service was personable, atmosphere is kitschy-cute. Had the chicken fried steak with eggs, fried potatoes and gravy, and everything was delicious. The gravy is extra special, it's a house secret recipe and worth tasting.
Hot Plate was just okay overall. The food was pretty basic. Meteokre warm food for 2 of the 3 of us, and it took almost 30 minutes to be served after ordering on a day where it was not busy or full inside the restaurant. The breakfast potatoes and English muffin lacked flavor, though the blueberry pancakes were definitely the highlight and very tasty. Prices are a bit steep for what you get and our server was polite, but did not offer any suggestions or guidance on the menu. All in all, it’s an average spot — not bad, but nothing to get too hyped about or wait more than 30 minutes to be seated.
