Customer Reviews
First off, the staff is AMAZING. They are always helpful whether you need a recommendation on specific books, placing holds from other libraries, navigating your account, renewing when you’ve maxed out auto renewals - they are always friendly and happy to see you and help you with just about anything. Second, I’m so appreciative to have this library in Clayton. Having come from Wake, I assumed all counties had multiple libraries, so I’m grateful to have a library nearby that not only stays current on popular kids and adult books (and is willing to obtain books you recommend), but gives you access to books through the entire NC cardinal system - for free! For 4 years now I have been able to check out all kinds of books for my now 10 year old through Hocutt without ever feeling the need to p
As you can see from other reviews, this library covers the needs of children and families very well. I have been using their services for three years and have always been pleased. Services also included are Large Print collection, seasonal displays of books, computer area and always helpful staff. Yes, sometimes you can hear other people in conversation. It's not a problem; it is the very meaning of the word "public".
Nice town library with sections for adults, teens (study room), and kids. Book return/drop off on the corner. They auto-renew the books for you, too!
We usually visit this library once a week, and it’s one of my favorite parts of our weekly routine! I love how the children’s area is it’s own separate space, and they seem to regularly receive new books. The staff are all friendly and helpful. I called the library today with some questions about my account, and the lady I spoke with at the front desk (via phone) was refreshingly kind and helpful. I also learned that a library card is now free if you live in Clayton, so we’re grateful to have access to such a great space at no cost.
The staff isn’t very friendly, responsive, nor accommodating. As a local author, business owner, and minor celebrity, I made a point to visit the library to check out books for my family and I to read. In doing so, I noticed that several of the books were extremely dated. Not only that there isn’t much cultural diversity in their literature or programming as far as I can tell. I attempted to establish relationships with them as I have with other libraries in and around the area in an effort to bring some excitement towards visiting the library particularly for children and teens but they were non-responsive towards my outreach attempts. With all of that being said, I’d definitely recommend other branches within Johnston County and beyond if you’re looking for something like an upbeat atmos
