Hey, Sunshine Kitchen

As I was looking at the menu, the lovely woman behind the counter let me know she was actually one of the owners (Heather) and asked if I had any questions. She was super friendly and asked for my name :) Of course I asked for recommendations for their best sellers and she gave me her faves, her sisters faves, and the best sellers. I ended up getting her sisters favorite, the Backyard BBQ Tofu Bowl. I had low expectations only because tofu is so often plain and too hard, and veggie bowls can be… bland! But it’s fantastic! It came with like four LARGE chunks of tofu with delicious bbq sauce on it. and everything goes so well together. I love the crispy onions. How lucky am I to have Hey, Sunshine Kitchen only a few blocks away?! I’m thrilled to have access to affordable wholesome nourishment, especially during the work week, and have fallen in love with their jackfruit carnitas tacos, beans & rice, and DIY bowls (always with the chickpea patty, always 2x caramelized onions). The fries, side salad, and brownies are also delicious, and my omni husband raved about his vegan chicken sandwich saying that it did indeed “scratch the itch.” Grateful for this gem!

Okay so this review is severely overdue and late and I apologize to the amazing owners of Hey Sunshine for that. My first visit (of many) was back in October of 2024 for my Billy Joel concert. What a great pre-concert meal. The staff couldn’t have been nicer. Then the food… WOW. Been vegan for years and this is hands down one of the best vegan restaurants ever. Even my mom who isn’t vegan loved this place when I took her more recently. It’s just the best vibes inside. You can’t help but smile being inside this positive atmosphere. What Jenny and Heather created is seriously something special here. I can’t wait to eat here again. If I didn’t live so far you can bet I’d eat there much more frequently. I love the Build Your on Bowl. And the chickpea nuggets are the best I have ever had. October 16th. My bestie is on town celebrating her birthday and we dined at Hey Sunshine Kitchen. Had the best time. She had the avocado crunch bowl with a couple substitubes. She devoured it and was so happy. I had the spiced hibiscus for the first time and it was well balanced. Delicious.

Food was good I ordered the beefy bowl, and a side of Mac and cheese. The bowl was good but, was lacking more protein it wasn’t beefy at all. Underneath the top layer was a thick layer of rice which I wasn’t really a fan of. Mac n cheese was bomb. I Also had the wild berry drink which was delicious but forgot to take a picture. Over all the Portion size was decent, price was meh was almost $60. Parking situation sucks
