Heaps Pies

This was my first time trying New Zealand fare and it was a good experience. Customer service was excellent with the menu being explained very well. I decided to try the Thai Green Chicken Curry and the Beef & Cheddar pies. The chicken curry was good but the sweet chili sauce gave it more flavor and a little sweet kick. The beef was tender and flavorful with a little ketchup putting a nice added touch to it. They were both very fresh. I would like to return to try other options and recommend checking this place out.

My husband and I tried a new spot today and absolutely loved it. Heaps in Decatur serves New Zealand style handheld savory pies, and everything we had was outstanding. The pies were packed with filling and incredibly satisfying. Parking was easy, which is always a plus. There was a bit of a wait, but honestly we appreciated it. The quality of the food made it well worth it, and it was refreshing to slow down and enjoy the experience. My husband ordered the fish and chips and it was delicious. The fries were great on their own, but dipping them into the sauce that came with the fish took them to another level. Where do I even start? This place is top tier. Wish we had decided to eat here instead of grab and go but blessed by the gods we stopped period. They definitely have HOT pies to go but now I have to try every single pie and the entire entree list. The Thai Chicken Curry Pie, so good. Flavorful but not overly, with the RIGHT amount of heat and the Steak and cheese, the steak and cheeeeeeeese. Whew. Braised beef had to be…cooked with red wine, I’m guessing on that though, but the flavors told me it was a slow cooked into a bomb of deliciousness and baked in a crispy crust. Incredible. This is not your average copy-paste trendy eatery, it’s truly a unique gem run with love. Small and unassuming, I never would have known about it if my bartender the night before hadn’t told me. They have great indoor and outdoor space, lovingly tended and curated plants, and plenty of New Zealand ephemera for decoration. I had the special, which happened to be a pot roast pie, and it was so flaky and tender on the outside with a tasty filling, well seasoned with tender meat. This place should be an internet sensation and a stop for Phil Rosenthal if he does and episode of Somebody Feed Phil in Atlanta, but secretly… I’m glad it’s just a neighborhood gem at the moment. 😁

Decatur's Hidden Cozy Gem Heaps is the place you want to go when the weather is chilly and you want something that warms you up. Their pies are exceptionally filling for their size, the ingredients come together phenomenally, and their service is astonishingly good. Heaps has cafe style vibes while maintaining great food. You really feel at home when you come here, wherever home is for you. I thoroughly enjoyed my first visit and am already looking forward to my next. I'm willing to bet you'll be doing the same once you give them a try.
