The large smoked chicken wings here, terrific! These were large and tender and juicy and full of flavor. The ribs, large and meaty and smoked nicely. The sides are not very memorable as it's just standard baked beans and slaw. The gator, was a little too chewy and not quite as amazing as I hoped. The fried catfish, on par with what I expect a nice grilled catfish to be. The hush puppies, hard and needed a lot of vinegar to break down to be edible. The end result. I'll be back. The Wings are phenomenal and the ribs, meatingly satisfying.
Some of the worst fried shrimp and hush puppies I've ever had. Nearly broke my tooth on the hard hush puppy. Maybe the BBQ is good? Wish I would have ordered that instead.
It was the start of lunch. The Service was great. I wish I could say the same for my sandwich platter. My first bite was baked beans. They were warm. I had to get up and take them to be heated. My pulled pork sandwich was chunky The bun wasn't heated. Seems harsh I know. But I've been to a few BBQ joints that were much better.
I don't mind taking a little drive to across the bridge when Hank's on my mind. If you’re hunting for authentic Southern BBQ in Tampa, Hank’s is where the smoke settles and the soul begins. My plate looked like a love letter to comfort food — golden fried catfish fillets stacked high beside juicy smoked sausage and tender pulled pork. You can taste the hours of slow cooking in every bite — deep, smoky, and perfectly seasoned. The sides held their own: creamy, pepper-dusted mac and cheese that tasted like Sunday dinner, collard greens cooked low and slow with that unmistakable hint of vinegar, and a basket of fried okra so crispy they sang when you bit in. This is what we got for $20, pictured below. We ordered takeout for the first time. The ribs were very thin (not meaty). The outer meat was very tough and hard to chew, tasted like they had been sitting under the heat lamp all day. I really don’t think this was a 1/2 slab of ribs like we ordered. Very disappointed.
