GN Hotel and Lounge

GREAT food, CLEAN, and amazing Christmas decorations. Greeted with a smile by Julie, our very friendly and prompt waitress with waters and immediately asked if we wanted coffee and we both agreed yes, she offered cream, first time not having to ask for cream and waiting. She was extremely patient with me as I didn’t know what I wanted, I had not been able to eat in a while, I had just been released from the hospital the day before and I read the entire menu!! Tom, the cook, made everything to perfection…chef’s kiss, pictures will reflect I had to take a couple bites before I took pics, sorry! Again, Both meals AND coffee were delicious!!! Alice, at the front desk is everything you would want to see when checking in a hotel or out of a restaurant, extended friendly, professional and proud

Went in because people I work with say this is the better place for a steak. First, went into the lounge. Completely ignored by the bar tender. Tables were dirty and had not been cleared. Looking down the hall I see employees just hanging out and chatting. Went into the dining room and the tables there were dirty as well. No signs or direction as to wait or seat myself. Another patron told me that I can just sit and they would clear the table. While waiting, the server came out and cleared another table and disappeared. No greeting or acknowledgement. After 5 minutes, I left. Food could be good, but I didn't want to be ignored or sit in filth.

The nearest Amtrak station to my friend's house in Montana was Malta. Before boarding the train, we made a stop at the GN Hotel and Lounge for a light lunch. I opted for the Asian Salad with grilled chicken. It was decent, nothing particularly exceptional, but I was grateful to have a place to grab a bite to eat.

I cannot comment on the actual food since the following happened. While attending a post funeral dinner, i used some off color language(my bad) in our conversation and out of the blue the waitress hit me hard on the top of my head. This hurt and caught completely off guard. A while later I told her I did not appreciate being hit like that. Instead of appoligizing she called me a wimp. I cancelled my dinner and left.

We ate in Cafe area and food and service were excellent. I had the mandarin chicken salad.
