Gangnam Spice - Korean Fried Chicken

Wrong description. Nothing we tried resembled Korean fried chicken. If they meant the sauces rather than the wings, even those (Firebird and Gangnam Spice) were far more American than Korean. I grew up in Gangnam, and none of the flavors reminded me of what I had growing up. It was all within that familiar sweet-and-spicy territory you can find at plenty of chains like Raising Canes, and it was hard to tell the two sauces apart. The frying style was also firmly American. The chicken was crispy (especially the Basak Basak), but the breading and texture were closer to standard American wings than Korean fried chicken, which typically has a thinner, cracklier crust. I was really excited to try this place since it looked really good on social media/Instagram. I love getting Korean Fried Chicken and I saw the video of the owner and his journey to opening this restaurant. However, the food and service were both deeply disappointing. The spicy chicken was not that spicy, so much that we forgot that it was supposed to be spicy. I wanted to try the wings, but they said that they ran out. This is concerning given that this is a fried chicken restaurant and wings are typically the most popular item on the menu. We got tenders instead, but we were also let down by the taste and texture. The BBQ flavored tenders were so hard that I ended up cutting my mouth just to eat it. The portion especially for the tenders was disappointing given that I ordered 8 pieces an

Gangnam Spice did not disappoint. I tried the veggie fried rice and the Gangnam Spice tenders, and both were on point. The fried rice was flavorful, perfectly cooked, and didn’t feel greasy—every bite had good seasoning and fresh veggies. The tenders were the real star though: crispy on the outside, juicy on the inside, and coated in that Gangnam Spice sauce that hits the perfect balance of sweet, spicy, and savory. Overall, the food was filling, well-seasoned, and clearly made with care. Definitely a spot I’d come back to.

Frankly speaking, my experience at Gangman Spice was mixed. I didn’t really enjoy most of the dishes. The tteokbokki wasn’t to my taste at all. On the positive side, the chicken strips were actually good, and I really liked the kimchi , it was flavorful and well made. Overall, it wasn’t a place I personally enjoyed much, but there were a couple of items that stood out.

Visited for their crispy, flavor packed wings which they lived up to the hype!!! Gangnam spice is sweet and full of flavor. Delicious both hot and fresh and as leftovers, cold the next day. The corn pancakes were good - they paired well with butter flavor in the dipping sauce - but not a must. Will be back to try the other korean street food!
