With joy, we saw the awning for Formosa and its Taiwanese dumplings. Holy Cow! Could it be? Good dumplings right here? Tonight we finally got an order of the boiled chive and pork dumplings to go. It was fast and affordable and at home, we dove in. Excellent, tender dumpling dough. Almost translucent in its delicate wrap of the chivey, porky centers. Dipped in the chili oil that comes with it, they are completely delicious. I can't wait to go back and try everything. Doesn't hurt that the ambiance is giving The Bear vibes. Friendly staff making excellent food. 3 months old and killing it! Highly recommend.
Popped in here for lunch with a friend. We each had different noodle dishes. I had the beef noodle soup, which was tasty and a large portion. Plenty of beef and noodles, good flavor, and a nice variety of vegetables. I also had the bubble tea (winter melon flavor), which I enjoyed. I'd come back to eat here if I was in the neighborhood.
I really liked this new dumpling place in BK. We got the kimchi and special pork dumplings as well as the beef noodles. All dishes were really good! I loved the no-frills atmosphere and the quick service. Looking forward to go again.
The first time we tried Formosa in Prospect Heights, we ordered pork dumplings, veggie dumplings, chicken, and popcorn chicken. The veggie dumplings were the standout — really tasty — but the order still took about 40 minutes for takeout. We gave it another try today and ordered just veggie dumplings, and it still took 35 minutes. They need to work on their speed for sure. It’s not a sit-down type of place — it feels more like a fast-food spot — so waiting that long just doesn’t make sense. The food is good, but not “wait around that long” good.
The sesame noodles are always a good move. The dumplings are perfectly fried with chili oil and fresh scallions. Apologies because we ate them all before taking a photo so you don’t get the full effect. Only note: I want more moss!
