I first met Bryan through work, when I was trying to figure out which businesses were truly sustainable in philly (there's a lot of greenwashing out there!). Fishtown Seafood is on a level of their own - I have learned so much from Bryan, and that's largely because he's so generous with his time and his knowledge. He offers what I think Philly does so well and needs more of: someone who really knows his stuff, running an incredible neighborhood business, coming from and guided by a real human being with heart. He's a member of the community that makes more community, and someone who makes what matters happen. Could not recommend more highly. Oh! And some of the most sustainable (and delicious) seafood products you can buy.
Great quality fish and wonderful service. Oysters are also incredible! I hadn't ever tasted oysters that briney. The onigiri is also a great option for a quick lunch when I'm in the area. Highly recommend this shop to anyone needing/wanting seafood.
Carefully selected seafood. Love the mussels Monday kits and $1 oyster deals. Dank scallops and fresh lobster meat, perfect crab cakes. Frozen section and small tinned offering. Onigiri for work snacks. A+ all around.
The advertisement for the caviar tasting was so enticing that we immediately signed up. A chance to sample a bunch of different caviars sounded terrific! We paid the $90 per person and arrived with high expectations! The experience was anything but! We arrived to find the “hole in the wall” store front barely set up for the event. There were no chairs, no plates, no napkins. Two tiny (I guess 30 gm each) containers of low to mid range caviar were sitting on the counter (no ice, no appealing bowl just sitting there) accompanied eventually by a plate with cold doughy blini, some egg and some crème fraiche and bowl of salty potato chips. After we asked, the leader/sales woman went downstairs and brought up plastic cups of water as we had forgotten our wine. She started the show by put
Love picking up beautiful salmon belly for poke, the Mussel Monday specials and the onigiri! All incredible quality.
