Firecakes Donuts

Firecakes Donuts is so good if you’re craving something sweet! The donuts are fresh, big, and come in a bunch of fun flavors. Every time I’ve been, the case is totally stocked and everything looks amazing. I tried the ice cream donut and it was delicious! The shop is super tiny and cozy, with outdoor seating only when it’s warm out, so it’s definitely more of a to-go vibe. Overall, Firecakes perfect when you want a delicious sweet treat. One of my favorites in the city!

Popular local donut shop, but not my favorite. Had Firecakes when I first came to Chicago years ago, so I stopped by again to see if my memory was right. Back then, my donut experience was mostly limited to Dunkin’, so I remember thinking these were incredible. Everything still looked great in the display, and I’m not sure if the lineup has changed since then, but I picked up their two popular old-fashioneds (pistachio and buttermilk). For old-fashioneds, texture is everything for me, and these were a bit too dense. Not much of that crackly bits that breaks gently and melts away once you bite into it. Maybe the other styles hit better, but if you’re specifically looking for a great old-fashioned, I’d check out other local spots instead.

About a week ago I bought what was supposed to be a maple bacon long john from the truck. Instead I received a donut that had no maple flavor both on the inside and out. I emailed them privately to see if they would correct it and received no response back. For nearly $6 and what they consider a “craft experience” I think there are many other donut shops in and around Chicago that offer higher quality and at a lower cost. Avoid the maple bacon as it’s not what it appears to be.

Firecakes Donuts is a fantastic spot to satisfy donut cravings. Old style donuts, different flavors and fresh, delicious donuts are available. The coffee is also good, but can be inconsistent. The shop itself is cute and cozy, though seating is quite limited, available outside only during summer months, especially during peak times. It's a great place for a quick treat or to enjoy an outdoor table during warmer months. While the donuts are a bit pricey, the quality is good, and the donuts are often larger than average. Overall, a solid 4-star experience and a go-to for unique and tasty donuts!

These donuts are absolute FIRE! Had the ice cream donut while in town and it was delicious. Would have loved it if the donut was hot but, it was great nonetheless. Will definitely be back! They also offer gluten free options which is great!
