The only place in my hometown that provides food for vegans and non-vegans. With me being a vegan, this is very nice. Now I don't have to go up north to Chicago to eat out vegan when we don't feel like cooking. Convenience: five stars. Food: five stars. Service: five stars. Atmosphere: 10 stars.😎

If you're in the mood for fresh juices, smoothies, açaí bowls, or vegan bites, this gem in downtown Kankakee is a must visit! It’s so cozy and welcoming. We ordered the Green Goddess and Morning Sunshine, and both were absolutely delicious! They also have a variety of vegan food options, and although we didn’t order any, another customer ordered the impossible mushroom and it smelled AMAZING 🤤. They also have a selection of baked goods from a local baker, Beautifully Bunt. Highly recommend this place if you're looking for healthy, plant-based options in a laid-back, friendly setting. You’ll definitely want to try the juices! P.s they have checkers!!!

Essential is one of my favorite places to support. Their menu is amazing. I’ve been vegetarian/vegan for many years. This is the first cafe that offers absolutely everything we could ask for. No more settling for restaurant’s side dishes because of no vegetarian/vegan inclusion. Their full menu is made for us! Please try them; you won’t be sorry! Açaí bowl and Brats pictured.

This place is my current obsession. The food, smoothies and juices are amazing! It’s all so fresh and delicious. I could eat an açaí bowl every day from here. Everyone is always friendly and welcoming. The decor and vibe is so relaxing… it’s the perfect place to just chill and kick back with a friend.

Essential smoothie is a GIFT to our city!! 10/10 every time! They have accommodated specific dietary needs when it’s a bit different than the menu and I’m so grateful! My whole family loves this restaurant! My favs: Southwest burrito, black bean burger and their tropical base Açai bowl!
