El Toro Mexican Restaurant

We stopped by El Toro while traveling through Oklahoma, and it was a fantastic find! The place is incredibly cozy and captures that authentic, family-owned Mexican restaurant vibe perfectly. The location is very convenient right on Cherokee Avenue, with plenty of parking available. The service was top-notch; we were greeted with a warm smile, and our food arrived surprisingly fast. The chips and salsa were fresh and crisp, and the portions were huge we definitely didn’t leave hungry! It’s a great spot to grab a meal in Sallisaw if you're looking for a welcoming atmosphere. We’ll definitely be back the next time we're passing through!

This place was really good. It was quiet other than normal chatter and our server was very nice. The meals were affordable and the restaurant was clean. My daughter did not care for her chicken nuggets, they looked a bit dark colored. The salsa and guacamole were both great. My son is VERY picky and ate a ton of their popcorn shrimp. 🤣 It did take a while to get cashed out but overall the food and experience was great. Everyone was nice. Most important: THE SWEET TEA IS GOOD. I'm from Arkansas and dang it's hard to get good sweet tea. 🤣🤣

Remember as a kid, your mom said don’t swallow your gum because it will get all hung up inside you. I am very worried about the cheese that was in the chili relleno. Before selecting a restaurant, I always scan the reviews and pictures. Especially the pictures. The pictures have more information than most reviews. A fellow Yelp reviewer posted a picture of a live roach that he had dispassionately and callously “Flicked” to the floor. He didn’t describe the outcome on the roach’s wellbeing the after the assault. We can only hope it turned out positively for the roach. I am no entomologist, but in the picture the roach looked like he was healthy and had been well fed. That’s a strong indication that the food is good. The chips and salsa were really good. I had the burritos California it was huge and really really good. Atmosphere was good. The bathrooms were clean. It was a really nice place everybody liked it.
