El Chapin Restaurant & Bakery

El chapin is the restaurant that I had been waiting for as a local Guatemalan growing up in north nj. The place is open 24/7 and offers favorite Guatemalan dishes like pepian, shukos, taquitos, tostadas, rellenitos, and caldos. It also offers a full bakery with sweet bread and other desserts. Definitely recommend to any Guatemalan family missing the taste and hospitality of our home country.

I was recently in New Jersey for a concert and stayed walking distance from El Chapin. We tried it on our first night there and we ate there almost every day and sometimes twice a day until we left and now I am sad. I don’t know when I will ever return but now I feel like I need to go back just to go eat here. The vibe and decor was bright and beautiful, the staff were so nice and welcoming, and the food was DELICIOUS! The food here was almost as good as my dad’s haha. The breakfast was delicious, the carne asada was so good and such a great deal for how much food you get and the tamales 😭 one of the best I’ve had. Rolled up here late at night and ordered a bucket of pastries. The staff was super helpful and kind. I loved the Banana Bread, the Vanilla Cake, and the Pineapple cake I tried.

Outstanding overall When late the food and service are excellent!!!

Food: Delicious. Fresh and very nice presentation. Service: A1. Waitress asked us every 10 min if we were okay. Atmosphere: good music, very nice decoration for Christmas and the chairs very comfortable. PRICE: affordable. $160 for 5 people. Appetizers, second drink, extra chicharrón, coffee and bread Servers were really kind in general. I don’t understand why there are ppl complaining. It’s a beautiful restaurant. With a VERY WIDE VARIETY of bread. The only not so positive is that when we came we were not immediately seated but the thing was that it was PACKED. Congratulations! We are definitely coming back!
