Einstein Bros. Bagels

I am very familiar with Einstein Bros. Bagels, primarily in California. This morning was my first time walking into Einstein bagel shop. Upon entry, I noticed open seating, various diners enjoying their bagel and coffee meals, and a team of friendly, welcoming and communicative staff. Literally, the whole package was right in front of me - 5 star! My order was taken by a pleasant female staff. As I mentioned earlier, staff communicated and made sure my order was on point (ie no dressing of any kind, lightly toasted bagels, chips on side, cream cheese, etc). I saw team effort. I also saw staff that appeared warm, friendly and familiar with most of their customers. Lots of, "Hellos, goodbyes, haven seen you in a while ..." was often used by staff. Nice to see and hear. I stopped by Einstein Bros. Bagels in Chicago on a cold morning when I needed something fast but comforting, and it honestly hit the spot. The bagels were soft inside with that slightly chewy bite on the outside, and you can tell they’re made to be hearty enough to hold a proper sandwich. I ordered a classic egg and cheese with bacon, and it felt like the kind of no-nonsense breakfast that actually keeps you full instead of just pretending to. The coffee was strong and reliable, nothing fancy, just exactly what you want when you’re half awake and staring at the Chicago wind outside. The place had that casual, everyday energy—people grabbing takeout, a few sitting with laptops, staff moving quickly but still friendly. It’s not trying to be trendy or artisanal, and I kind of appreciate that.

I love me a good bagel sandwich especially from Einstein, however I was met with disappointment this morning. I ordered a Turkey/Cheddar deli sandwich, to find the lettuce on my sandwich was brown and wilted 🤢. Do better Einstein, been eating here for over 10 years. Don’t sacrifice customer satisfaction for the sake of overhead expenses.

This bagel shop is a gem in the middle of downtown Chicago. You can’t beat freshly baked bagels and coffee. Plus the shop is spacious and super clean, the staff is always cheerful and friendly. It reminds me of the show “Cheers”, because as soon as you walk in to place your order, they already know your name! Such a wonderful way to start your day.

The bagel was overall good, but smaller than what I expected. The service was good, and they were quick to take and complete my order. The unfortunate part was they didn't have the tables set up for me to be able to eat the bagel there. Overall, decent experience.
