EDOHANA Japanese Restaurant in Rockwall

I have only been to two other hibachi restaurants and have never been disappointed. I had the pleasure of enjoying this experience with my boyfriend and child - which made me love it all the more! Our chef was amazing and the food was delish! The only notes I had: we had to wait for another party to join us before being served; which would have been fine, had we been informed of the twenty minute wait. And, the waitstaff was quite inattentive. It took longer than half an hour to get a refill. 🤷🏻‍♀️

My wife and I (and as they arrived, our children) have been coming here for close to 20 years. After the original owners were gone, the experience and menu declined somewhat, but they were still our favorite. Tonight we visited for celebration of my (excessive age not disclosed) birthday as has been our tradition. What transpired has left us rather dissatisfied. I would estimate we have eaten hibachi between 200-300 times in the last 20 years. I’m not an expert, but I’m experienced and always try to connect with the staff. Doing so has given me insight to the point of view from across the grill. My husband and I's experience at this resturaunt was outstanding! I would honestly rate more than 5 stars if I could! We came during dinner time (probably 6 or 7 PM). Service was super fast and very attentive! Our waiter had a big smile on his face and was super polite! Brought my husband a refill before he even realized it was half full! We had the fried calamari, eel roll, 99 roll, tonkatsu pork, grilled seafood. The calamari was cooked perfectly, I could bite through it with my front teeth and even with the better calamari I've had I don't think I've ever been able to do that! I haven't had Hibachi in quite some time so I've been looking forward to trying it. I ordered their filet mignon and chicken hibachi and it was so good! I added the extra $2 to have the Hibachi fried rice and that was the right decision that was the most delicious fried rice I think I've had in quite some time, if ever. The chicken was wonderfully seasoned, moist, and had delicious flavor. The first thing I dove into was the vegetables which was wonderfully cooked with a light sauce, you could have the vegetable hibachi and be full and delighted. The filet mignon was tender and juicy. The host at the door was definitely not friendly, once seated, the waitress was fast and friendly in the beginning, the cook that made our dinner in the grill, did not do show,was not friendly, undercooked the food(shrimp was chewy),use a lot of rice for 2 eggs, was extremely hard to understand since there was a language barrier. Also the waitress forgot our drinks so once we were done she remembered,so we just cancelled the drinks. The soup they gave in the beginning was more water flavored than anything,the salad dressing seemed old because of the texture and flavor. On a positive note:They did have chopsticks and something to help the kids with the chopsticks.
