I went here hoping for a good vegetarian-friendly meal, especially given the number of tofu options on the menu, but the overall experience was very disappointing. We ordered vegetable lo mein, chili deep-fried soft tofu, and vegetable & mushroom bao buns. The lo mein was mediocre at best, and the tofu added to it felt oddly fried and thrown on top, completely out of place. The standalone chili tofu was decent, but unfortunately the bao buns were terrible — poor texture and flavor, and honestly hard to eat. Shortly after the meal, I felt sick and ended up throwing up. Dumpling House is a great hidden gem in a little strip mall on Walnut street in Newton. There was plenty of parking. Restaurant appeared very clean. Staff was friendly. The menu is huge. Mostly authentic Chinese dishes. Not your typical American style Chinese food. The food tasted extremely fresh and full of flavor. I started with a small hot and sour soup with shredded pork. It was large enough for two people. Very traditionally prepared with wood ear mushrooms, golden needles, tofu, pork, scallions. It had a very nice complex flavor with a big kick that would clear out anyone's sinuses. Soup was delicious! My first appetizer was the jellyfish with garlic.
