Donkey's Place

I consistently saw Donkey’s Place cheesesteak at the top of "best cheesesteak" lists, and I’d agree. I especially like it as a sandwich. But it’s not just the cheesesteak, which was outstanding. It’s the whole experience. It has that old bar charm, a place with a neighborhood feel where all kinds of people come, from Philly, N.J., and visiting cheesesteak enthusiasts like me. It’s worth the trip.

Are you kidding me? This is the best steak I’ve ever had! The onion rings were very good as well. The wings are outstanding! A genuine, beat up place with wonderful people and great food!

This place totally lives up to the hype. Got a cheesesteak, onion rings, and a coke. Needed a to-go box for half the sandwich. While the rings were OK, the cheesesteak is the best I've ever had in the Philly area after living here for over 20 years. Perfect, silky blend of meat. Cheese, and fried onions. Donkey's is absolutely a dive, but that's part of it's charm. Go there. You'll regret it if you wait so long like I did!

Several people recommended it so I decided to give it a try. I would have liked to talk to the staff more but I showed up right before the lunch rush so it was short lived. Food was delicious. My first “round” Philly. Seasoned fries and cheese was delish too!

One of the best cheesesteaks, even better than a lot of cheesesteaks I’ve had from Philly. What I liked about it is the tender big chunks of beef that was particularly juicy. I’m not crazy about the fried onions. Would recommend having the sandwich with a beer sitting in the bar. You may end up making new friends while chomping together.
