We visited Dongbei Restaurant on a Friday night without a reservation and were pleasantly surprised by how easy the wait was. We put our name down, grabbed a drink next door, and were seated in about 15 minutes, which felt very reasonable for a busy Midtown evening. The space is bright, clean, and casual, with a lively but comfortable energy. Service was efficient and friendly, and dishes came out at a steady, well paced rhythm. Dongbei cuisine comes from Northeastern China and is known for hearty, comforting food with bold flavors and generous portions. The dishes tend to lean savory and warming, with braises, stir fries, skewers, and classic sweet and sour preparations that feel especially satisfying. This was my first time trying Dongbei food, and I was particularly excited to finally

I’m from Harbin and I’ve been looking all over NYC for the most authentic 锅包肉 pork dish for over a decade. For me, the vinegar has to sting your nose when you lean in to sniff it… and the dish at this restaurant is the right texture and is sweet, but it’s not sour enough. With that being said, the portions are GREAT and the sliced potatoes dish is TO DIE FOR. The eggplant 地三鲜 was good also. Please just make the meat more sour!!!!

I tried this new Northeastern Chinese restaurant in Midtown and it was such a pleasant surprise. The food has real wok hei and tastes so much better than delivery. The Guo Bao Rou was crispy outside and tender inside with a mild vinegar aroma that wasn’t overwhelming. The Little Chicken Stew with Mushroom was flavorful and comforting, and the lamb spine soup was rich with a nice pop of Sichuan pepper. Prices are almost unbelievable for Manhattan since five of us ordered six dishes and the total was around one hundred dollars. The staff was warm and attentive which made the meal even better. If you want solid Northeastern food without going all the way to Flushing, this place is definitely worth trying.

We had a really great dining experience at the restaurant. We ordered a few typical Chinese northwestern cuisine and everything was delicious. Highly recommend the sweet and sour pork, chicken mushroom stew, and lamb stew. Portion was generous regarding the price! The service was excellent and location is convenient too. 100% recommendation!

I came here for dinner with friend. He recommend this place. The service was good, we were seated quickly and given water. We ordered around 4 dishes. The Pork feet, sweet and sour pork, sour pork cabbage, and some kind of korean style noodle dish. All of them were pretty good, I liked the sweet and sour pork the most. Worth a visit.
