Decent library, definitely been to better. This library is huge, 4 levels with a parking lot next to it. Unfortunately, there was no parking on a weekday morning so I had to park on the top floor. My issue isnt thr parking, but how inconvenient the library parking in relation to the library entrance. Took me another 5 minutes to walk to the library. Their elevator smelled like piss and was sketchy so I just took the stairs. Stairs were recently cleaned and smelled like it. Library staff were usually always helpful and kind, although I dont understand the masks still in 2026. Other staff came off as pretty miserable, judgy, or just weird. I would like to raise a concern regarding smoking and vaping inside the library. I understand that library security regularly monitors and tracks new readers entering the facility. However, I have noticed that some readers are vaping or smoking inside the library, which violates library rules and affects the health and comfort of other visitors. Could you please advise what security staff are currently checking during their monitoring, and whether additional attention can be given to enforcing the no-smoking and no-vaping policy inside the library? The Des Plaines Public Library is one of those places that makes you forget you’re even in a library. The building’s super nice — bright, lots of windows, and a great view if you grab a seat by the big glass wall. The layout’s easy to navigate, and everything feels organized without being too strict. They’ve got way more than just books: computers, study rooms, tons of seating, and even a small teen section that’s actually chill. The staff are friendly but don’t hover, and it’s usually quiet enough to get homework done. Wi-Fi’s solid too. If you need a place to study, relax, or just scroll in peace — this is the spot. Bonus points for free parking and the cozy vibe in winter.

The selection is excellent, and the events and programs for all ages show how much they care about the community. The only small downside is that parking can be tricky during busy times, but overall, it’s one of the best libraries around.
