Dawa Sushi and Ramen is an absolute gem. I stopped in for lunch with my mom and we were both genuinely impressed from start to finish. I ordered the Shoyu Ramen and a shrimp tempura roll—both were flavorful, balanced, and beautifully prepared. My mom had the chashu ramen and a salmon roll, and she couldn’t stop talking about how fresh and delicious everything tasted. We also shared the octopus tempura, which was perfectly tender on the inside and crisp on the outside—one of the best I’ve had. Our food came out quickly, yet nothing felt rushed. The ambiance is warm and inviting; you quickly forget you’re right under the L train. The staff was so pleasant and attentive, clearly taking pride in creating a great dining experience. Dawa Sushi and Ramen is a true hidden gem in Philly. Definitely the best sushi in town. The fish is very fresh and basically melts in your mouth. The Uni gets flown in from Hokkaido, Japan and is phenomenal! I can’t wait to sit down and try the Omakase that’s only on Friday’s.

Dawa Sushi is one of the fishtown’s best-kept secrets. I’ve been coming here since they first opened, and it continues to impress me every single time. This is truly some of the most underrated sushi in the city. The fish is consistently incredibly fresh—honestly better than what I’ve had at several of the most expensive sushi spots around. Their omakase is phenomenal and thoughtfully prepared, and the ramen is just as memorable, with a deeply flavorful, comforting broth that you can tell was made with care. On top of the food, the owners are genuinely kind and incredibly hardworking, which makes the experience even more special. If you’re looking for exceptional sushi without the hype or pretension, Dawa is a must-visit.

The soul of sushi lies in the quality and freshness of the fish, and this place absolutely delivers. The ingredients here can rival, and even surpass some of the top omakase spots in Philadelphia. Don’t let the location or surroundings fool you; just look at the pictures and the natural marbling of the fish, and you’ll understand what I mean.
