The arrival of a new neighborhood restaurant should be cause for optimism. This one manages to extinguish that optimism entirely — and leaves behind the uncomfortable truth that this is what our corner of the city has settled for. The grilled cheese (pictured) was, without exaggeration, buttered toast with a rumor of cheese. That such a pedestrian result could be presented with visible pride — a genuine smile, as though something had been accomplished — speaks either to a breathtaking lack of self-awareness or a contempt for the customer that borders on audacious. The staff and atmosphere were wonderful. They answered questions about their menu and were kind. The cookies feel similar to me to Schmidt’s bakery. We tried the chili and cheesy potato soup as well. These reminded me of a pre-mixed soup mix. Finally, we tried the spicy pastrami sandwich. It is pictured below. It came with close to no meat. The toppings on the sandwich had great flavor, but due to lack of meat, it made for a very underwhelming sandwich. We might return for a cookie or two!

We love Cutlers!!! Their cookies are 10/10. Especially the double frosted peanut butter. We’ve wanted one close by for years. So happy it’s in the neighborhood!

Great bread made the sandwiches delicious and we bought tons of cookies and the dough. Yummmmmm.
