Crystal Cafe

We had been here for several months so we thought we would try it again. They definitely have their pros and cons. Pros - Our waitress was fantastic. The food was good. Cons - It took 29 minutes to get our food. The restaurant seating area really needs to be updated badly. The coffee cups are too small. But the worst thing about our whole experience was when I went to the counter to pay, the woman at the cash register just stood there and stared at me...not a word. I handed her my ticket, looked at the credit card machine and asked if she was ready because again, there were no words. I scanned my card, put it away and waited for her to ask if I wanted a receipt. Still, nothing. No "thank you for coming," no "have a nice day." This is absolutely unacceptable! This was a good experience for lunch. We both had a hot beef sandwich. The hot beef was good but could have used a little more roast compared to the amount of gravy. The pie was phenomenal! The mile high meringue did not disappoint. Will be back again soon to try another main dish and more pie.

Having breakfast at the Crystal Cafe is like going back in time to a diner twenty years ago, in a good way. Tables are filled with friends and families taking to one another rather than being on their phones. Waitresses are warm, welcoming and quick to serve delicious dishes. It’s one of the last remaining breakfast cafes in the Sioux City area that has those great diner vibes with friendly faces and great food.

I would have dined in but I arrived shortly after 9 with them closing at 9:30 I had to take away. My choice off the menu was “Liver & onions” with two sides being baked potato and side salad. This was an amazing $9.99! The liver was cooked perfectly sweet, fresh, large portion, the potato was quite possibly the biggest Russet I’ve received in a restaurant and the salad was perfect. O I am certainly coming back! There was lots on the menu to choose from and I’m looking forward to trying the breakfast options! I wish I had taken a picture of the liver & onions for you to see but I wolfed it down before I thought of it.

Won't return to this place attached to a gas station. Waitress more interested in her cell phone than checking food order. food delivery slow. Burger only half cooked and soup very salty. As a fix, they offered to water it down. No thnx. Steer clear of this place, nothing like their commercial.
