Crafted at Boone Tavern

I did a review years ago but with the total makeover of the restaurant and menu I figured I would go another review. The new look is very nice and highlights the talented students at Berea College. They made the furniture and artwork throughout. The new menu is delicious but they removed one of the best things on the menu (the bird’s nest). We sampled multiple items from the new menu and loved all of it.

Hidden gem! Classy atmosphere yet relaxed and approachable with bespoke artwork. Incredible attention to detail in the food preparation and presentation! The local history and culture is reflected in the menu. My picture displays the delightful beet salad.

I finally managed to come here for a post hike dinner. The service is amazing, our server, Kiley, was very attentive and accommodating. I’m very pleased that the staff was welcoming of my mobility service dog (in training) as this was a good training opportunity for him in a fine dining establishment. We are very excited to come back. The food was delicious and plated beautifully.

About 58 years ago was the first time that I came to the Boone Tavern in Berea Kentucky. It was very special when my sisters and I got to eat at the Tavern. We would practice our manners under our mother's guidance so that when we went to the restaurant, we would act like young ladies. We craved the spoon bread that was served at the restaurant. Our parents would let us eat our weight in spoon bread because we liked it so much. This visit, so many years later, was such a joy! My sister and I, along with her husband and my boyfriend, had dinner before we went to a show. The place is newly remodeled in colors of blue and yellow. It is beautiful! Boone Tavern has been a favorite special restaurant of mine since 1968. Service and food have both always been great which is why it's been a choice for special occasions. But yesterday Thanksgiving, was a big disappointment. There were two choices for salads, however, they were out of the Waldorf which 6 of the 8 of us ordered. The spoon bread was luke warm and didn't even melt the butter. The gavey was more like pudding than a a sauce to go on potatoes. They even ran out of whipped cream for pumpkin pie. Service was also a huge disappointment. We had to send other staff for our waiter three times. Plus we flagged down the assistant manager for assistance in paying our bill.
