Copper Beech Inn

Had a wonderful dinner there after a matinee holiday show at the Ivoryton Playhouse. What a perfect way to continue our outing. The inn was decorated so tastefully and beautifully. Our server, Andrew, was excellent, very personable and good knowledge of the menu despite his being new. Our group ordered the Brussels sprouts, escargot, arugula salad, cod en papillote, steak and a chicken dish that was amazing. Everything was delicious though the cod was a small portion compared to the others significantly larger portioned meals. The 2 in our group who ordered the cod ended up finishing off the chicken and steak for the others. For dessert we had an apple turnover and the profiteroles. I drove by the Copper Beech Inn countless times when I lived in Old Saybrook and Essex but only stayed there recently after selling my house and in need of accommodation. What a lovely historic inn! My room in the Comstock building to the rear of the main building was elegant in a Regency style, with a most comfortable king bed, a large seating area, desk, well-designed domestic space for coffee preparation, and a very practical small refrigerator. The bathroom was large and well-appointed with a separate bathtub and tiled walk-in shower. I found this room to be one of the most thoughtfully laid out and handsomely decorated I have experienced, right up there with the Williamsburg Inn.||Even better were the Copper Beech's public rooms and notably the distinctive Craftsman style interiors

Went here for dinner. They had virtually no workers,just the hostess who was also the server( they were the same person). The food was nothing to talk about. You would do better going elsewhere. My wife ordered lamb and it was overcooked and chewy. It took forever for the waitress/hostess to come by to exdplain the bad food. Usually after the food is served, the server comes back to ask if everything was ok, but not here. very poor service. The waitress/hostess was not warm and friendly. Overpriced food Will never go back here again and people would be better off going elsewhere. It looks elegant. It looks nice and that’s the only thing. ran into a couple who ate there also. they had the same opinion on food and service.

Came with my husband to celebrate 22 years married and my husband's 60th birthday. It was so lovely!! Room was great and beautiful! Always cleaned everyday by housekeeping. Breakfast included and was wonderful. Close to shopping and attractions. We recommend and we are coming back!!!

I wrote the inn on Oct 13, 2025 in reference to our stay from Oct. 9-12. We came to relax and didn’t sleep for 3 nights. Cheapest KS mattress possible, large fat pillows impossible to adjust to your sleep style. Couch properly bought at a garage sale. You sat down and couldn’t get up. Large desk, served absolutely no purpose, used for a 31” 480 standard TV with bad and erratic reception. Couldn’t be seen from horrible couch. The “KILLER”. There is no safe in the room and the cleaning service 2 days in a row didn’t lock our door when leaving. Told the desk clerk, but apparently it fell on deaf ears. Price was pretty high with no amenities, so if you want a relaxing, romantic getaway for a few days, take this place off your list.
