Chmura's Bakery

My husband’s family has been going to this bakery over 70 years when it was a Polish bakery. Now it is Portuguese run but still has the original product line in addition to some Portuguese goodies. They have a selection of cakes (they also do made to order cakes), breads, pies, danishes, muffins as well as other items. I bought the Bismarks and my sister in law loved them. As a sweet lover they were way too sweet for me but they won’t go to waste. My partner loves the Portuguese Rolls and the Seeded Rye Bread is his absolute favourite. The long queues prove how loved this bakery is. They have a huge carpark.

Tasty, fresh breads. Unfortunately, most pastries are way too sweet. Sugar content can be easily cut in half and the pastries would only be better for it. Had a jam-filled donut for breakfast this morning and that thing was so ridiculously sweet that I still feel sick thinking about it in the afternoon. One of the donuts also had a hair in the dough.

This place is a study in contradictions. The donut and apple pie square were delicious! But the danishes were so dry it was painful to chew. Not to mention the peanut butter chocolate chip cookies- I honestly think they were made incorrectly and were missing an ingredient. Not good. At. All.

While at Brimfield antique show someone told me about chmuras bakery, and it was true they are great. Best rye since my childhood days. Service was friendly informative and pleasant. I'm from Connecticut but I'll have to make a monthly or by monthly trip for some goodies.

Love this bakery- the BEST! I grew up going here with my grandmother. I now live in Arizona, but each and every time I return back home I ensure I have the opportunity to stop by Chumra's. A few of my favorite menu items are the sugar cookies, rye bead (cannot find anything comparable ever!!), and the vanilla cupcakes with chocolate frosting.
