Chile Relleno

This was absolutely delicious, 10/10, no doubt about it. Coming from San Antonio, Texas, right on the border with Mexico, I was a bit hesitant to try Mexican food from Hawaii since it's not their "cultural food." Even though we're all from the USA, Hawaii has its own unique culture. I tried everything individually, and I seriously loved it. I just had to find out who the owner or cooks were. Turns out it's Samuel Sanchez, both from a 1989 Mexican background, who moved to Hawaii. Awesome vibe, love this spot. I will definitely be sharing this location with everyone visiting Hawaii. The prices scared me at first, about $20 a plate, but definitely worth it! I'm sure things have to be imported.

The prices were on par for being in Hawaii, the restaurant was clean, the wait staff was friendly and attentive, the atmosphere was 5 stars, loved the colors and the space. The food was good... missed the mark on the salsa, beans, and rice, but the mains were definitely on par with other Mexican restaurants. I rate this as a top 10 on the island of Oahu.

Chile Relleno has been our go-to Mexican restaurant on the island for years. Their chile relleno dish is always delicious. Perfectly cooked with rich flavor and just the right amount of heat. They serve complimentary crispy chips with a spicy salsa that starts the meal off right. The restaurant recently remodeled, and the place looks great, bright, colorful, and full of character. I also appreciate the friendly staff and the relaxed, welcoming vibe. It’s BYOB, which adds a nice touch if you want to bring your own drinks. The only downside is that prices have jumped quite a bit recently, around 40%. I understand costs have gone up everywhere, but it’s definitely noticeable.

The servers were kind and efficient, and the food was absolutely delicious. We’ll be back next time we’re craving Mexican food!
