Chicha's Mehfil

A new Hyderabad cuisine spot recently opened in Sunnyvale and was heavily promoted online, so we decided to give it a try. We ordered chicken biryani, mutton biryani, chicken 65, haleem and Irani chai Biryani: The biryani was decent but needs improvement. The rice lacked aroma and depth, and the overall flavors were mild, missing that authentic Hyderabadi punch. The meat was cooked well, but the masala didn’t fully infuse into the rice. Chicken 65: Texture was fine, It tasted more generic than Hyderabadi. Haleem: Good consistency, but again, flavor could and spice balance. Overall: The food is okay for a first visit, but there’s room to grow. With better spice balance, richer masala, and more authentic flavors, this place has potential. If this is how food in Hyderabad tastes, I would love to visit Hyderabad some day for the food. I have been in bay area for couple of years and haven't tasted so soft and juicy chicken 65. Biryani had a taste of itself but mirchi ka salan made it even better. The Red chicken had a taste like Daigi Qourma (used in Pakistani weddings) but even better with the mix of cashews. Malai Bun, I ate like 3, it's gonna be my go to snack for sure with the tea. Last but not least the Mutton Haleem was out of the world with real Desi Ghee, it reminded me of Hareesa from Lahore but again with all the goodness of Haleem. This is a new entry and I wish best of luck to them, hoping the standards will be kept the way I tried it first time or get even better. Packaging is nice specially Haleem and Buns.

I was excited to visit the place as the names of the dishes are all coined after areas in Hyderabad. ***USP: very limited menu based on popular dishes from Hyderabad, India. Think onion samosas, chicken 65, biryani etc. ***AMBIANCE: all white Nizam palace style ambiance to go with the name of the restaurant- Mehfil. ***FOOD: my hometown stoked my passion for food and the sole dish responsible for it has been Chicken 65. I relished this dish and had it quite often while growing up. My brother and I used to squabble over who would get a larger share as well. *Chicken 65: 4/5: first bite and nostalgia hit me hard. This restaurant is the best in providing authentic Hyderabadi food which is very delicious! Here is what I have tried : Goat Biryani — super rich flavours and amazing taste ! Never tasted anything like it do have it with mirchi ka salan which is just ♥️ Goat Haleem — the best I ever had since I moved to US. Chicken 65 — loved the bold flavours I am spice lover so I loved it soo much as it was spicy ! Tala wa gosht — amazing bold flavour my husband loved it soo much Zinger burger — my kid loved it and finished the whole burger and wanted more so it’s definitely kid approved !! Malai bun — fav of everyone including adults and kids in my family ! Over all the atmosphere is good and food is really flavourful and bold ! Definitely recommend it !

Chicha’s Mehfil must be doing something right because they had already run out of biryani by the time we got there. Even though we missed it, the experience was still great. Their chai was really good, and the owner was incredibly kind, he even offered us free chai since the biryani was sold out. That hospitality really stood out. Will definitely be visiting again, hopefully earlier next time to catch the biryani!
