Catfish King

Haven’t eaten here in years, but have always had great memories from eating here when I was younger. Came right after they opened for lunch and was very disappointed. The good about our visit was the staff was friendly and the building was very clean. The bad though was the fish, the star of the show was very bland. No seasoning at all. Fries and hush puppies were good though. Also, the men’s restroom was not ready for customers. No paper towels, little to no toilet paper and the solo stall has a door that does not lock or latch, it just freely swings open.

Wow, this place was totally empty when we arrived and only had 2 other tables come in after us; however, they do seem to do pretty good business in the drive through. Decor is old, outdated and dark. Took about 5 minutes for someone to come take our order and looked pretty put out that he was having to do anything. They have a salad bar area, but was not available the night we were there (thursday). Food did come out fairly quickly, but was mediocre. I had popcorn shrimp that tasted like the oil needed to be changed in the fryer. The cheese sticks were served with Ranch and marinara - pretty good, although a little skinny. Loved the hushpuppies! WARNING!!!! IF IT’S NOT IN THE NOTES ON DOORDASH YOU WONT GET IT!! We forgot to ask for ketchup and called to make sure it was in the sack. They still did not put it in there. Make sure you put in your order that you want relish, tartar sauce, butter AND ketchup!!! You get ZERO condiments!! On a positive note…Great food! Always unlocks a childhood memory of Sunday after church. After 40 years it still tastes the same. Just make sure you ask for your condiments when you place an order online.

My husband and I stopped overnight in Texarkana and was looking for a local restaurant when we came across “Catfish King”. The service was outstanding and we were very pleased with our food. The catfish dinner was amazing, served with 3 pieces of catfish, pinto beans, fries, coleslaw, and hush puppies. The price was very reasonable, especially with all that came with the dinner. If you have the chance to eat there, don’t pass it up!
