Capitol Lunch

Capitol Lunch is a Connecticut classic. If you love hot dogs, Connecticut lore, or both, this is the place for you. I grew up making the trip to New Britain with my Pepere and my dad just to go to Capitol Lunch. They have local Rosol’s hot dogs and that kind of chili sauce you’ll try to recreate but never will be able to get just right.

Capitol Lunch in New Britain perfects the art of keeping it simple. Fantastic food and fantastic service. Parking is easy on the street or in parking lot across the street. Once inside you step back in time to a luncheonette type of feel. Service is super friendly and everyone feels welcome. Hot dogs have a nice snap to them. The "famous" dog with mustard, onions and sauce is a great tasting combination. Fries and onion rings are cooked perfectly also. Definitely worth a visit to say you've been there ... and you'll go back again. update 6/27/2024: Double Cheeseburger is also fantastic! Definitely an old school feel and taste to the double cheeseburger. Thin beef patties, melted cheese and great squishy bun. Just as good as the hot dogs. Can't go wrong with either.

Great dog spot! Meat sauce 10/10 flavor, sodas were fantastic, and fries top notch. Staff was so friendly, and actually talked about the history of the place with me. Def stop by!

Modern approach to old school craft. With about $40 you can get a Famous Hot Dog Combo w fries and a drink + double cheeseburger combo that comes with onion rings and a drink, an extra Famous dog for the road and a $4-$5 tip. Oh my god I'm so full. The Famous sauce is tasty and the staff work well together. When I walked into Capital Lunch there was a line from the counter to the doors. I overheard one guy buy 5 Famous dogs while I was eating. It's clear locals and day trippers enjoy this spot. I will definitely be back.

2 hot dogs, fries and a large drink for $9.99? Yes, please! I’ve never been here until recently but have heard about it for years. Let’s start with something I almost always talk about: I love my French fries to be crispy aka well done and 9/10 places either just ignore my request or their norm is just to undercook them for some reason, this place nailed it. The staff is super friendly and attentive. The hot dogs are Martin rosol’s which is the second best only to hummels and they were fantastic. Just so you know, “the sauce” is their chili. I didn’t know this and got two with the sauce so had to get two without after I finished them. I’ll say, I prefer making the dogs my way which could or could not include the sauce.
