My mother and I visited Cape Cod National Seashore on the whole day of Wednesday, October 1st. Sadly, it was the same day as the government shutdown. All both two visitor centers, the restrooms, and the buildings are closed. Except the restrooms by Salt Pond Visitor Center was opened after we arrived nearby Cape Cod National Seashore Entrance. And we had to go explore the Cape Cod National Seashore outside. We had a lot of good time to see a few places in a beautiful day. We walked .8 mile on two different trails, Buttonbush Trail Loop and Marconi Beach Walk. Buttonbush Trail is located nearby Salt Pond Visitor Center. Many different plants and trees we walked through. Not many people have walked past us. Marconi Beach is not far away from Salt Pond Visitor Center. It was crazy and stro
Definitely worth the visit! A beautiful drive with striking landscape. Be on the lookout for the adorable red foxes that inhabit the area. An excellent activity for anyone visiting the Cape Cod area.
Cape Cod National Seashore is a beautiful and expansive stretch of coastline with plenty of ways to explore. There are multiple access points to the beach, spots to learn about the area’s history through interpretive signs, scenic trails for hiking or biking, and iconic lighthouses to visit. The beach itself is calm in terms of crowds, which makes it a peaceful place to enjoy the sound of the waves — though the surf can be quite rough, so be cautious if you’re planning to swim. The sand is soft and clean, but we didn’t come across any seashells (maybe they’re more common in other seasons). The highlight for us was spotting many seals playing in the water — such a treat! Plenty of parking makes it easy to explore different sections of this beautiful national seashore.
There are several beautiful sand beaches with bath and changing rooms. On at least one beach there is an area that you can drive on with a permit. I saw several campers parked on the beach. We saw some seals frolicking in the water but no great white sharks.
Even in the winter this is a neat place to check out. We made stops at Fort Hill, Salt Pond Visitor center, Nauset Light, Marconi site, and Highland Lighthouse. The weather was cold and wet, but worth it.
