Cala Fry & Grill

We stumbled upon "Barwaqo" as it's now called when we were headed to the Electric Fetus for a book signing event; apparently this place changed hands about a month ago (Oct 2023) so previous reviews under the old Cala name are not relevant. We felt very welcomed by the owner and staff, and had an amazing dinner of Somali chicken and rice, sambusa, and the spinach dish which game with roasted goat and a fava bean soup with glutinous rice cakes. Everything was fresh and delicious and obviously made with a lot of care, and all of the food we got only came to about $45. We were thrilled to have randomly taken a chance on an unknown place and we will go back in the future. When we talked to the owner outside afterwards, I asked one of the staff what "barwaqo" means in Somali and he said "gift"

This has been the WORST experience I have ever had with take-out. We had ordered from this place previously, and it took over an hour and half to get our food (which was then cold). We assumed they were just busy, and gave them another shot today. Needless to say we NEVER got our food. We tried to call the place SEVERAL times with no reply. I got someone on the phone who said he would look into it for me (2 hours into our wait) and then I never got a reply. Almost two and half hours into our wait I was able to get a second person on the phone, who told me to hold and then hung up on me. I was never able to get a hold of them again. In the end we had to call the app company we ordered through and cancel the transaction since the restaurant was going to close in 15minutes. I would serious

There is no actual seafood on the menus what so ever but the food isn't bad. Just wish it wasnt listed as seafood tho

Very rude and will tell you that they will not serve non somali

I got the Philly cheese steak and I loved it
