Boustan started in Montreal in 1986, built a serious cult following, and has since expanded to over 70 locations across Canada. This is only their second U.S. location and their very first in New Jersey, conveniently located inside Garden State Plaza. It’s also the only halal Mediterranean option in the mall, with plenty of vegan and gluten-free choices. Although it’s fast-casual, everything here is genuinely made fresh. Their saj bread is proofed, pressed, and cooked on site, shawarma is freshly shaved, falafel, fries, and pita chips are fried to order, and the vegetables were noticeably fresh and crisp. I've been curiously circling this newest addition to the food court offerings at Garden State Plaza mall. The menu offers up Mediterranean fare, mainly in the form of pitas and sandwiches, and it's a welcome fresh face in a sea of Chinese takeout sameness. There's a decent amount of customization available, and the folks at the counter offered up promisingly tasty samples last night that convinced us to place our first full order. Taste-wise, things were great. The veggies were fresh, saucing levels were appropriate, and the falafels were nicely seasoned. My husband and I both got pitas, and we loved the way they grill-press them here to create such a crunchy exterior. My husband and I tried Boustan last night and were so impressed with both the food and service! My bowl was flavorful, fresh, and packed with healthy ingredients. The sauces may have been the best part - I loved the eggplant and garlic dips, and the Boustan sauce (which I had on the side). I got the chicken shawarma as my protein and it was delicious. Also, they actually making the pita fresh - and you can taste the difference! The portions are generous, and the “build your own” option makes it easy to accommodate any dietary preferences. The staff was warm, friendly, and welcoming, and the prices are reasonable. I am so happy there is finally an option in the food court for healthy, real food - we will be back!

We tried their special menu with chicken and beef salad. ( BOUSTAN BOWL ) It was delicious. Highly recommended. The foodcourt of Garden State Mall is getting smaller every year in terms of varieties. This store brings hopes. Good Luck.

I was blown away by Boustan. One of the most delicious and fresh meals I’ve had in a long time. They literally make the pita bread fresh right in front of you! The meat was delicious and juicy. The Baba Ganoush was so tasty. And the Boustan sauce was a delicious garlicky topping. I highly recommend this new spot in the Garden State Plaza!
