We stayed in the Caboose for two nights. It was a nice experience, well kept on the inside. the décor could be updated as it was very dark inside. It had dark wood paneling and a dark carpet with only four lights. The bedding was clean and in great shape. Bathroom was clean with no mold or mildew like other reviewers had reported. The outside could be re-painted as some rust is starting to show. |Our overall experience was good, I would recommend that this should be on your bucket list of stays when experiencing Bonne Terre Mine (Scuba Diving or not)
My son and I stayed in box car 1 and 2 for our trip to dive the Bonne Terre Mine. It was a unique experience. We loved the old fashion dark work furniture in each box car. The rooms were super clean and ready for us. The surrounding area is not what you'd expect but it's quiet! The rooms had juice and muffins for breakfast which was good for us prior to diving. The tv/cable was good as we watched the college football playoffs eating dominos pizza after a day of diving. The only thing that didn't fit our expectations was the wifi. So weak we couldn't log on. Definitely would stay here again when we dive. We'd like to experience the depot.
It is what it is, and it is very good! Staying at the depot is a unique experience you should add to your Bonne Terre Mine dive trip. The rooms are no frills, so you'll have to bring your own goodies, and there's no Wi-Fi, but the rooms are very clean, roomy and nicely furnished. They owner of the mine and his wife own the depot, they take great pride in making sure you have a clean, comfortable room and a pleasant stay. I stayed in the box car (Room #2) and really enjoyed the experience, I would definitely stay there again.
The Depot is a converted rail station owned by the owners of Bonne Terre mine. There are rooms in the main building and two rail cars outside, one with 2 rooms, one with one room. The rooms are tastefully furnished in theme. There is TV, free Wi-Fi, and a few snacks provided (muffins, juices, and a coffee pot with coffee supplies). The convenience can't be beat. There is parking right next to your room. Rooms can be arranged when setting up dives with the mine. The Depot is a 3 minute drive to the mine, making it super convenient to report for your dives, and a great place to crash after diving. I like it because it is very convenient and quiet. It is close enough to go back to your room during surface intervals, too. I don't eat breakfast, so the in room coffee was plenty. Ther
The rooms were clean and quiet. Bring anything you think you might need...shampoo, soap, hair dryer, etc.... There were towels, but we had two rooms, and could not get the TV to work in any of them. Bring extra pillows if you need them, as the one supplied is quite flat. There is no temperature control anywhere, but we were definitely warm enough. There is no "desk" to contact if you have any questions or concerns. It was OK to experience one time, but will probably go to a regular motel next time.
