Blue Talon Bistro

It's been far too long since my last visit here, and I am delighted that today's lunch more than lived up to my memory! I ordered my favorite, the chicken Cæsar salad, and it was fresh, crunchy, and full of shredded rotisserie chicken. My dining companions had the steak-frîtes and the bœuf Bourguignon - the steak was apparently just a *bit* overcooked but the truffle fries are to die for. The bœuf Bourguignon was incredible, the sauce deeply flavorful and unctuous. My cucumber cocktail was light and refreshing, and glory hallelujah, they've brought back the big bowl of chocolate mousse that I haven't seen since before lockdown (so yummy I forgot to take a photo). Reserved a table for birthday dinner at this beautiful French café. They were not overly busy on a Thursday night, which created a relaxing atmosphere! The staff was pleasant, but on the slower side - I feel they may have been short. We ordered cheese fondue to start, which was a perfect blend, but not warm enough. For mains we had the lamb shank and steak which were both delicious and a good bit of food! For dessert we had the chocolate mouse, I only wish it came with more than one strawberry.

This was the perfect first night dinner here in Williamsburg. Our food was absolutely delicious. The restaurant had a great vibe. The staff was attentive. We were well cared for, but we were not rushed out of there.

We stopped into Blue Talon Bistro on a Thursday night without a reservation and quickly realized why the place was packed — the food is that good. We started with sharing the clam chowder, and it was amazing—my photo in the review doesn’t do it justice. Creamy, loaded with real clams, and easily rivaling some of the best we’ve had along the New England coast. It was so good, I ditched my original entree choice and ordered a full bowl for myself as my entree. My husband went with the cassoulet and was equally impressed, comparing it favorably to one made by his favorite chef in Chicago. That’s saying something. The food, the service and the atmosphere were all fantastic. With Julia Childes cooking in the background you know you’re in for treat. The food is a little pricey for breakfast, but the experience is well worth it. I left feeling a little fancier, and a lot fuller (because the portions are generous also).
