BawBaw’s BBQ

It’s the quintessential hometown BBQ place, with the best food. We enjoyed brisket and smoked chicken (not dry, which is hard to find) and the sides were clearly homemade and delicious. The slaw is vinegar based, but white sauce tones it down nicely. We had to take smoked bologna home and we’re really enjoying having that at home on egg sandwiches. We will be frequent visitors of BawBaw’s for all our BBQ. So glad to discover it so I don’t have to drive to Kentucky for good smoked bologna … LOL (Wycliffe, STOP if you go through) …

We had BawBaws bbq for a company Christmas party and it was delicious! The ribs and pulled pork had a great smoked flavor. The ribs were huge and had a lot of meat on them. The baked beans were probably my favorite, but I have no complaints about the green beans. Give them a try whether you are local or passing through. Plenty of indoor seating and parking spots.

My family enjoyed the half chicken plate and ribs. The beans had a smoky flavor that made it everyone’s favorite side. I was not impressed with the brisket or the service but they seemed under staffed today, so I’ll give it a second try soon.

My wife and I tried this on chance and were not disappointed. It was the Wednesday before Thanksgiving and people were buying takeout for dinner. We opted to sit and enjoyed a nice dinner. We have commented many times that Athens needs a cozy hometown restaurant that makes you feel like you’re at home. I had the brisket which was very good. My wife had the 1/2 chicken which was cooked to perfection and equally delicious.

Great local BBQ joint! I got the pulled pork plate and it was delicious. The baked beans had great flavor. They smoke the meat behind the restaurant, and you can tell everything is very fresh made. You get lots of food for your money, so come hungry!
