Battiste's Bed, Breakfast and Birds

Julie and Tony are amazing hosts. We stayed for 3 nights and it was delightful. Amazing birding right there on the yard and so close to fabulous birding spots.

We were on a late summer trip to see the last of the summering birds in the area and booked a stay with Julie and Tony in their guest room. The garden was well set up and Tony was out redoing some of the features. Tony was a wealth of bird knowledge in general and in the area. He pointed us in the direction of several birds on the target list with great accuracy. Our hosts were kind and generous and wouldn’t hesitate to stay with them again if we’re in the area. An ideal location, gracious hosts, and a comfortable casita make this one of my favorite places to stay and go birding. My latest visit reminded me that I should go more often! We stayed two nights in early April and saw dozens of species without leaving the yard. Alas, the elf owls didn't appear, but it was still a wonderful trip. There's also much to explore in the area, including Ash Canyon Bird Sanctuary, Ramsey Canyon Nature Preserve, Miller Canyon, and more. The BB&B itself is a spectacular home base. Tony and Julie are welcoming and friendly, and their thoughtful touches are appreciated. They stock the casita with more than enough breakfast goodies, including coffee, juice, milk, cereal, instant oatmeal, yogurt, English muffins, fruit, and homemade baked goods. Yum! After a busy

A magical bird garden. Extremely birdy at all times. There is a $10 day fee and it's totally worth it! Parking is right in front of the garden. Tony is very friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. He was a joy to speak to. We visited in late April and saw nearly 50 birds in an hour one morning, including many hummingbirds (Lucifer's, Calliope, etc) and a roadrunner. Saw the Elf Owl and Western Screech Owl at night (~7PM). I was visiting Arizona for the first time aiming to see a roadrunner, despite knowing the difficulty of seeing one, among other new life birds. My partner and I have already been birding in Arizona for several days, visiting every eBird hotspot with a recent roadrunner sighting and had no luck. $10 will get you a front row seat to watch some of the local celebrities: the Birds, that is! 🤗🐦. I just wished they'd had more suet & orher feeders filled, but timing is everything! Hey, it is the perfect place to spend an hour or so!
