Bass Harbor Memorial Library

Stopped here in passing during our Maine vacation (because we enjoy a busman’s holiday 😉) and found the staff super-friendly and informative about the library and its collections. When, later that day, we found our dinner plans scuppered by the unfortunate temporary closing of Thurston’s, we naturally thought of this community’s best resource, went back, and asked the librarians for an alternative. They suggested Beal’s, and it was outstanding, thanks guys! (And Thurston’s, don’t worry, we’ll catch you next time.)

This place has a really unique story! Highly recommend visiting; if you aren't from the area, you can still get a library card and check out books for a refundable $20. The librarians are very knowledgeable about the area and were happy to talk about its heritage and give advice on good places to visit.

What a gem! They are especially responsive to the community, also a great resource for families. The arts community and all who come in benefits from experiencing what is on exhibit in their exhibit spaces.
