I was really excited to try this Mississippi restaurant after reading so many great reviews and seeing how delicious the food looked. But honestly, how much would you pay for this? Maybe $10 or $20 at most? It definitely was NOT worth the $30 price tag. They got me once, but never again!!! UPDATE: My family lives in the South, and I’ve really missed authentic southern home cooking, so I decided to give this place a try. I ordered through Too Good To Go, which claimed the meal was worth $30—but honestly, it was mediocre at best. The chicken was decent, but the vegetables were terrible. I tried the cabbage and green beans, but they were so bad I threw them away. The only side that was remotely good was the collard greens. Ordered three types of fried fish. I have to say that I like that they make them fresh to order. Size portions are decent. Catfish was our favorite with the red snapper second. Do note the fish is fried, so if you have salt or dietary issues I would skip for now. Collard greens with pork was good and not too overcooked. Food is comfort food, not fancy. Place was busy so that's a sign of good food. Prices were very reasonable. Take out only. Food is packaged well. Staff is mellow, so just place your order and move on.

When I want a good "to go" soul food dinner, this is where I go. You can see the prepared dishes in the glass case. The selected is expansive, i.e., three choices on Collard greens. I enjoy the smothered chicken with rice, gravy, and greens with pork. Nothing fancy. Just hardy portions (2 meals) and the tasty soul food selections you want. Fried catfish, fried chicken, and ribs are also available. Dine in is available in two areas.

I really hesitated to write this review but we were so disappointed. We had a variety of dishes from catfish, fried chicken, greens, yams, Mac and cheese, peach cobble and sweet tea. Nothing was good… the tea was watered down, Mac and cheese flavorless and dry, chicken tastes old or fried in old grease. Greens were decent but the yams nothing special. The peach cobbler was a big cup of soggy peaches and soggy crust. We drove a long way to patronize this business. The overall feel was the food is not fresh. I understand Bankhead has been in business for several years so apparently many people like the food. This is just our experience and opinion. But first impression is lasting and we will not be back.
