I made a reservation for a party of 6 (a dinner for my work teammates). It's quite a cozy spot, as we were sitting nearly elbow to elbow with the next table. I recommend for max party of 4 given the space. Sharing plates/family style is the way to go. We tried a ton of dishes!! We had a vegan in the mix, and there were a ton of options on the menu to accommodate vegetarian or vegan diets as well as gluten-free diets. The sakoo appetizer was so special. I'd definitely get those. The baramundi and the claypot rice with crab dishes were also memorable!
5/5 overall because the Food was really delicious. We particularly enjoyed the Tumeric Catfish, Gaeng Dang Crab, and the Naem Khao, but really every dish was flavorful. Service was good and they got food out quick. Giving a 3/5 on atmosphere because it was a tight space and our table was just in the middle of everything with people frequently circling. Certainly worth going if you want Flavorful Laotian Food!
One of the best meals I’ve ever had. We had the dumplings (incredible!) and the crab red curry. Both were amazing. And the cocktails were delicious - especially the clarified Thai ice tea cocktail. Would highly recommend ! Also super nice service - bar staff so friendly !
Baan Mae checks every restaurant box. Good food? Check. Quality cocktails? Yep. Excellent service? Absolutely. A beautiful space? Obviously. A good story? Heck yes! The chef behind this Laotian spot in Shaw learned how to cook at a refugee camp in Thailand. As you scan the menu, you'll see the use of the word "Mom." The chef is mom and she's worth having in your family. For food, the dishes are unique, but pull from familiar flavors like curries and jasmine rice. An example of this is the red curry. Get it with beef brisket, which pairs well with the lychee and eggplant in the dish. It's excellent! To start, the salmon skewers are simple, but perfectly done and dipped in chimichurri sauce. For dessert, get the white gelato on black sesame sticky rice. So good! To drink, their cocktails
First time at Baan Mae and it won't be my last, our server Ole is the epitome of perfect service; efficient, friendly, takes his time walking you through the menu, and was very attentive. The food is outstanding, everything we had well surpassed our expectations and we were left wondering what was in the food we were eating and how could each bite be so tasty. We were celebrating our anniversary and Ole comped a green tea gelato for us, which was the best way to end such a tasty meal. I will attach some pictures of the food we had, everything we ordered was a twelve out of ten
